Trained for 12 weeks to get in race shape. Solid two-day expo. They have a variety of events: 5K, mascot dash, half marathon, marathon and marathon relay. Bart Yasso shows up every year to do a talk and a shakeout run. Expo has a blogger form. Just a ton of support stuff.
If you’re wanting to do a bigger race but not be so worried about over hyped and super big, this is your event. Plenty of parking but it does tell you to pay (shh I don’t). You don’t have to get to the corral super early to get your spot. The finish is pretty cool and the hangout spot is nice.
I first ran the Route 66 back in 2015 for my 1st Half Marathon and had such a fun time and loved the crowd support so much. So in 2016 I ran their marathon & even for the marathon, the crowd support was amazing.
route 66 had great medals and swag with a double day weekend with a 5k on one day and marathons the next it's makes for a great weekend. The marathon course is hilly but if your not looking for a good timed results but more of a good party time you will be fine.
Route 66 Marathon is a HILLY intense course!! The neighborhoods are all so accommodating. There were a couple neighborhoods that had their own “aid stations” set up with alcoholic beverages, water, snacks, pain reliever, music, and lots of high fives!
