A fun, well-organized race. (I did the "sprint.") Swim is in super-clean Square Lake, bike course is tough with endless hills, and the run course also is big-hill challenging. But you can take great pride in finishing this race as it's probably the toughest tri in Minnesota.
I've done this race two years now, and both times it has been enjoyable. The lake has been remarkably clear, the race atmosphere fairly laid-back with convenient packet pickup, and the rest of the course is fairly nice.
This was a well-organized and welcoming event. The course was beautiful, with a bike ride through rural farmland and flowering wetlands, it was lovely and helped me enjoy the bike ride especially. The volunteers were great too, a big thank you to all the folks who made it a great morning.
As a first time triathlon participant, I found this race to be friendly. The volunteers on the course were excellent.
The course was rolling through a rural part of Stillwater, MN and the non-race traffic was light, which helped keep participants safe.
The lake was great for open water swimming. Clear and clean with very few weeds. The bike course was picturesque with tough rolling hills. The run was an out and back that I measured at 3.1 mi. There were rolling hills on this as well. Overall the course was beautiful and challenging.
