I prefer less hype and more a fun atmosphere and an amazing course. Square Lake had all of that. The swim, bike, and run courses were amazing, and although they kept saying they were short volunteers, I thought everything was really well marked and staffed.
Competed in the 70.3 distance. I thought it was a well organized race with great pre-race communication. The water was the cleanest lake I have ever swam in! The course is up and down, but the run is always keeping you guessing, up-down-up-down. Overall a great late season local event!
I competed as a part of a three-person relay (I did the swim). I live in Stillwater so I'm familiar with the course and Square Lake. Its a great swim for a race like this and the roads for biking and running are good too. Good scenery. Lots of rolling hills. Wide shoulders.
Square Lake 70.3 was a challenging race in a beautiful venue. The lake itself was flawless. It's an extremely clean lake and there was no battling seaweed. The bike course was very well marked with rolling hills in really pretty country. The roads were in excellent condition.
There was a perfect amount of aide stations along the bike and run course. The swim was in pancake flat clear water. The bike course was rolling hills but no hills were too steep. The run was up and down also. Overall I give this a 5 star race.
What a fabulous race! I like local triathlons and this one did not disappoint. The lake was pristine and well marked. I had no contact the entire swim. The bike course was 2 loops and so scenic. Nice rolling hills and good placement of water bottle exchanges. Even had some shade.
This is the most beautiful race venue and course. It is scenic yet challenging. It starts with a swim in one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in MN. Then winds through scenic country roads with wide shoulders. The run has lots of shade and winds around beautiful square lake.
