Had great weather, and I ran a really good time in the half marathon. Enjoyed the flat, closed course (no car traffic), but a couple of miles of roads early in the race were in poor condition. I stepped in a hole in section that was covered by grass.
I completed the 10K, my first ever and it was awesome! Would love to did this again next year!
After driving by the Seneca Army depot for 50+ years and finally being inside was really....haunting The way that nature has been to reclaim the bunkers and access roads was really something to see, knowing how busy this was at one time
I know this was a first event of this kind and kinks had to be worked out. I walked the 5K rather than run as I had a car accident and it is uncomfortable to run or even jog. One issue was not receiving a medal at the end of the race.
After race tomato pie was like bruchetta and tasty but too acidic for a good recovery food.
Could be a 5 with some minor tweaks. Solid 4.5 / 5. Distance a little short although easy to fix. Course was really fun although a little challenging in some of the older paths with lose asphalt, tall grass and yet this added to the fun in some ways. Very fast course.
I have run several of Willow Running's races, all half-marathons. They all tend to be a bit off the beaten path. This one was no different! And that's a good thing. The course itself, along the service/access roads to Cold-War-Era bomb shelters, was fascinating.
