I completed the 3-mile swim in 2017. It was a well organized but relaxed event. The focus of the event is fundraising/charity but it is timed and there are awards given to the first place in each age group. You can do the swim to compete or just to participate. I liked that it wasn't a huge event (there were about 30 swimmers in the 3 mile race) and that there are lots of options of distances to race. The water was warm (too warm for a wetsuit). Safety is taken seriously and there were great volunteer kayakers and other safety personnel on the course. Swimmers and others were friendly and there was a nice lunch provided after the race - not just snacks but homemade pasta salads, chicken, and other food. There was even some food provided before the race with orange juice for those needing a last-minute boost of energy or breakfast before the swim. The registration price was reasonable and the amount required in donations was also reasonable.
