I am not very athletic or competitive but I wanted to challenge myself- Jersey Girl was the right race for me. Fun, positive overall experience. The woman who spoke to us before we raced into the water was clear and helpful, providing some last minute instructions. I always knew where I needed to go despite not thoroughly understanding the layout before hand because signs were clear. I didn't have any trouble transitioning from bike to run but I heard several women fell trying to dismount their bikes. Maybe the dismount area could have been wider or longer? We were also all quite blind coming in to dismount because the sun was right there directly in front of us, so maybe that added to their struggles.

Top Tips:
New racers- do not try to do this race on an old, heavy mountain bike if you can find another option. I borrowed a road bike that I taught myself to ride for this race and it made the world of a difference. (13 minutes faster on the 11 miles with a bike change and a whole lot less exhaustion). Also make sure you practice getting off your bike at a short stop so you don't take a tumble right before the run!
