The marathon course was absolutely beautiful, transitioning from cool conifer forest to rolling Idaho farmland. Heartbreak Hill in Boston has nothing on the grueling uphill from mile 17 to 20, but the rest of the course is downhill and fast, with a nice mix of surfaces. The support was outstanding, with fruit, snacks, and gels at every aid station.
As is often the case with small town races, the best part of the weekend was the people. Everyone we met in Ashton, from the race organizers and volunteers to the lady serving free post-race huckleberry shakes, was extremely friendly and gracious. The front desk attendant at the Log Cabin Motel even called a motel across town to find us a room when hers was booked up. First class all the way!
