Blue Cheetah Sports Timing hosts the annual Cats & Bats 5K at Festival Park in Aberdeen. The event has been held for 4 years, this is the second time for their newer venue in Aberdeen. There was also an untimed 1 mile Fun Run ($20).

Registration: Online through Blue Cheetah for $25. It includes a finisher's medal and a regular tee shirt. There are also a couple packages available: register for the Bunny Run, Cats & Bats and Reindeer Run for $60, or two of the races for $40. There was registration available on race day. Packet pickup was available in Bel Air on Thursday before the race, and on race day. Proceeds from the registrations benefit the National PTSD Foundation.

The Course: The course is a fairly flat out-loop-and back through the neighborhood in Aberdeen. The roads are closed and monitored by law enforcement. It is asked that the racers be done in one hour so the roads can be opened back up to traffic. No water station. Event is chip-timed, but overall and AG winners are based on gun time.

Post-Race: Available after finishing is chips, bananas, bottles of water.

Awards: Overall finishers M/F receive a medal. First place medals to first in age groups in 10-year divisions. There is also a costume contest, based on audience applause.

Results: 288 finishers with times ranging from 17:55 (WOW!) to 1:07:05. Mean time 36:19.

Swag: Each participant in the 5K receives a tee shirt and a nice finisher's medal. This year's medal featured four bats that "fly" around the edges of the medal.
