I am a woman, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, an employee, a home-owner, a dog-owner, a volunteer, an athlete, and now a first time entrepreneur!!!
My name is Lauren Brueckner from Ocean City, Maryland. I would consider myself an athlete since about kindergarten back in the late ‘80s. I’ve been a serious competitor for about the last five years, which all started when I ran over three miles for the first time in 2012. For the record, my half-marathon PR was my first one I ever ran in 2012 with a time of 1:38:42. To date, I have not broken that time! Regardless, I will continue to try. In 2015, I ran the Rehoboth Beach marathon for the second time and while it was an amazing race it ended in comic devastation: I missed qualifying for Boston by 7 seconds…..7 SECONDS!! Who does that? (But just as life would turn out, I had been begging my husband for a second child and I did NOT want to have to choose between Boston and a baby. So nature solved that dilemma for us. I became pregnant with Baby #2 just a few short months later!
As any athlete who has trained for any race distance can tell you, training runs are long…and boring. With boredom sometimes come crazy, weird, wacky thoughts. Mine came at around mile 20 of the actual marathon: There should be a website that serves as the “Go To” place to find information on races in all disciplines (running, biking, triathlons, etc) all over the country. Like Trip Advisor, but for races. Race participants should have the ability to read and write reviews based on the races they’ve completed. After the Rehoboth Marathon, I wanted to shout from the rooftops what a great race it was with a flat course, impeccable organization, and a really cool medal. But where could I tell people this? Bam…if a website didn’t yet exist, I should create one!
The idea came a few weeks prior to the marathon when my husband and I were traveling out of town for the first time since having our daughter. We were going to a city neither of us had ever been to so we weren’t familiar with the fitness opportunities that existed. My husband is my number one fan and supporter. Before meeting me, he would only “run if chased,” but he committed to join me in a 5k race if I could find one. (I will disclose that during our six years together, he has happily run a handful of 5ks with me and smiled the whole way!) I searched online, and fourteen websites and forty-five minutes later, I found no such race in the city we were traveling to on the particular weekend we were traveling. Bummer. I put this experience on hold and it just happened to creep up when mile 20 hit during the marathon. I had found a need for a simple race search experience that combined the opportunity for users to read and write reviews on the races they had completed, or to ask questions about races they were considering. My hope is that anytime anyone wants to find a destination race, or a race in their own backyard, reviewed by other participants they need to look no further. Raceadvisors.com is your one-stop-shop for all things racing! Race reviews, for you, by you!
Thank you for taking the time to explore and use this website. Please, take a moment to rate your favorite race(s). We value your feedback!
