Welcome to Maryland Swim for Life!

Swim for Life is an open water swim competition and fundraising event to benefit Washington, DC-area HIV/AIDS non-profit organizations, as well as local watershed organizations that advocate for clean, local waters.

Sanctioned each year by United States Masters Swimming, Swim for Life begins and ends at Rolph's Wharf on the Chester River, which is one of the Chesapeake Bay's most beautiful tributaries. Athletes have the choice of swimming 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 miles. We will again be offering the hugely popular 2.4 Mile Triathlon Challenge swim!!

"Organized by pros "

This was my first year swimming this event, and I was very impressed by how well-organized and friendly the entire event was. The swim supports great causes, presents a challenge from 1 to 5 miles, and starts and finishes at a great location. And the picnic lunch was fantastic at the end.

"I LOVE this open water race!"

Words can't describe how much I love this race and the people who run ('swim'?) it. The location is gorgeous, the pre and post race food and beverages are amazing (BEST post-race spread anywhere), the support in and out of the water is awesome.

"Great Event!"

This was my fifth time for this swim. It is low-key, has a great vibe, and a river with a sometimes challenging current. I've never stayed for the food, but everyone raves about it.

"My first open water swim, but also my best!"

Very well run. The race had a very laid back, yet organized (and on time) atmosphere. It's a great swim!

"Fun Event"

This event was one of the best I ever participated in. I have done lots of swim meets and open water and this one was the most organize. I love that we were inform about time change and got lots of email about the course. The safety meeting before was very nice.

This is a great, low key event with beautiful views with every stroke. The organizers are wonderful, fun and friendly but very organized and safety-concerned as well. Great food afterwards supplied by the event's beneficiaries (this is a charity event).

"Great Event, but..."

I love the Maryland Swim for Life! It is a fun event, well organized, and well supported by kayakers, boaters and USCG. However, I would love to see the event take place a bit earlier in the year, when the water is not quite so hot.

"Fun, festive, food, friends"

If you only swim one open water swim this year, this should be it! For ultra runners, this is to Chesapeake Bay Bridge Swim what Stone Mill is to JFK 50: 1/3 the price, 3 times the food, and 30 times the fun and support! Of course it's even better knowing that it goes to good cause.

"great event"

This is one of my favorite endurance events. It benefits a great cause and the organizers and volunteers are very friendly. There are multiple distances to swim - 1, 2, 2.4, 3 4, and 5 mile options are available. The venue is lovely and the river is friendly but challenging.
